Family Club

A Warm Space for Local Families

We’re delighted to be launching a new Family Club in the St Johns Community Hall on Lodge Causeway — a welcoming after-school space for children, young people, and their families.

What is Family Club?
Family Club is a friendly, relaxed place where families from across Hillfields and Fishponds can come together after school to share simple food, connect with others, and enjoy a range of fun activities. Each week we’ll offer things like:

  • Toast, fruit & drinks

  • Games, crafts & creative play

  • A comfortable space for parents and carers to chat

  • Clothes, books, and practical community support

Who is it for?
Families of primary aged children are welcome to drop in, no booking or membership needed.

The emphasis is on warmth, friendship, and fun.

When & Where:
St John’s Community Hall, Lodge Causeway
Weekly during term time — starting week of 28th January 2026
 Wednesdays 3:15–4.45pm

Volunteers & Community:
This is a partnership initiative with local schools and community groups, supported by volunteers from St John’s and beyond. If you’d like to help welcome families or join in with activities, please get in touch, even one session a month makes a big difference!

Small Groups

Small groups are a vital and evolving part of the life and vibrancy of St Johns. We meet together in a variety of ways and forms throughout the week sharing different interests and needs, but with one faith and as part of one body. Digging in to a small group can be a great way to form friendships and receive support.

Saturday morning bible study (meet every Saturday morning at 10am)
Home Group (meet fortnightly on a Thursday evening at 7.30pm)
For any more information on any of these small groups please contact the Benefice Office on 0117 9586412 or administrator@kingswaybenefice.org.

Children & Youth

We often run Junior Church during services with age-appropriate activities and stories, and sometimes we stay together as one big church family. Either way, children are a central part of our worship and life together.

Beyond Sundays, we’re growing our work with local schools and planning more opportunities for children and young people to connect, belong, and thrive. We’re currently fundraising to employ a dedicated youth worker in the new year — an exciting next step in our journey with young people in the community.

Watch this space for updates, and please get in touch if you’d like to be involved.

Coombe Brook:

Community, Connection & Care

Coombe Brook is a local green space full of beauty, biodiversity, and quiet wonder — and we’re building something new here.

This is a growing partnership between St John’s and Bristol City Council, working alongside volunteers and local residents to care for the land, build community, and restore the space for everyone.

We meet around once a month for sessions that begin with a moment of stillness — grounding ourselves in the place through quiet mindfulness — followed by hands-on work like path clearing, litter picking, wildlife habitat creation, and more.

Whether you come once or every time, you’re welcome to join us in tending this valley with heart and purpose.

For more info, contact Rev. Matt Stone or visit the Friends of Coombe Brook Facebook group.
